Professional statement

Bridget Lovejoy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Portland, OR. Many of Bridget’s clients find themselves quick to react emotionally to situations, whether that’s feeling angry, defensive, judgemental, or even attached. This generally stems from a place of emotional insecurity, which Bridget helps clients recognize and heal. Bridget works with adults, many of whom feel anxious or stressed daily. Some of her clients feel the overwhelming impact of trauma, which may cause issues in relationships or at work. Bridget provides a calm atmosphere in sessions to explore these feelings.

Bridget’s approach to therapy draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), compassion-focused therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Clients learn how to change their thought patterns, with the goal of also adjusting their emotional responses. Bridget teaches clients how to ignore cognitive distortions and instead show self-compassion. With couples, she uses techniques from the Gottman Method to promote bonding and mutual respect.

Bridget earned her Master’s degree from California State University, Fresno. She previously lived abroad, learning about different cultures and supporting others in many ways. Bridget has worked in a variety of clinical settings. Her goal is to provide clients with the tools they need to lead meaningful, comfortable lives.

Message to clients

I welcome working with you whether is it individual therapy you are wanting, couples therapy or family therapy (I work with adult family members). I applaud your courage in reaching out and I want to reassure you that I am gentle and non-judgmental in my approach. I also bring in laughter sometimes. We can focus on a specific modality (such as EMDR) or we can simply address whatever your concerns are and I will apply what I know to your unique situation and make a therapy that is tailored to you. Therapy means healing and everyone can sometimes use some extra support and nurturance.
