Professional statement

Brit Creelman PhD is a seasoned therapist who has been helping individuals, couples, families, and communities for over 20 years. His passion for equity and healing the effects of trauma and depression has inspired a career that includes providing community-based recovery alternatives to psychiatric hospitalization, research on the relationship between trauma and substance use, peace and justice activism in war zones, and 10 years’ service as training director in a program for youth survivors of complex trauma.

Currently, in addition to maintaining a private practice in Evanston IL, Dr. Creelman serves as a therapist in a clinical trial using psilocybin to treat depression.

Message to clients

My approach to therapy is to foster a collaborative, supportive relationship, where problems can be experienced in a new way – with more curiosity and self-compassion, and less judgement. To that end I offer insight-oriented exploration and problem solving, along with an invitation to deepen day-to-day activities that support health (such as meditation, breathwork, mindfulness and spiritual practices, yoga, spending time in nature). All have unique circumstances and paths for moving forward, but for almost everyone the healing process involves healthy daily routines, and greater acceptance of self and others.

Clients come to see me to address a variety of issues, including depression, the effects of trauma, relationship or family difficulties, creative blocks, concerns about substance use, and stress related to Covid. I enjoy working with academics, creatives, members of the LBGTQ community, professionals who are considering career changes, and those who feel limited by the status quo.

Over the years I've helped many people address difficulty and move on to more fulfilling lives. If you want to get more of a sense of what working with me would be like feel free to schedule a consultation call so we can talk about what's going on and how I might be of service.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” — Carl Rogers
