Professional statement

Therapy is about getting your needs met. (Yes, you have needs. Everyone does. And you deserve to get yours met. Just as much as anyone else.)

Together we are making space for the soft, green tendrils of new thoughts, shining light on the parts of you that are dusty and damp, or maybe that you never knew were there. This work builds tenderness and ferocity, flexibility and strength.

Our life experiences and relationships - interpersonal, cultural, structural - have a strong influence on us. It’s important to keep in mind the ways that systems of power and privilege have influenced our relationships and lives both in and outside of therapy. Also important is intersectionality and the fact that each of our identities (like gender, socioeconomic status, race, religious affiliation) is complex.

How comfortable you feel with your therapist is over half of the predictor for success in therapy! The methods that I use pay a lot of attention to the therapy relationship. And, the way you feel with your therapist can be a window into other relationships in your life. I especially love attachment theory and the possibilities that therapy opens in rewiring our brains to new kinds of attachments, to ourselves and others.

Message to clients

Life - you soak it all in, every drop. (And you still feel empty.) Beauty - you live for it. (But it’s been hiding recently.) Empathy - you have more than enough of it. (And pain, other people’s mainly - you can’t seem to shake it.)

If you could just keep everyone happy, that would solve it. (But it doesn’t.)

This depleted, guilty, carrying the weight of the world thing isn’t working. There has to be a way to pay attention to yourself that isn’t selfish. (There is.)

Joy is somewhere inside, although it feels out of reach. Let's look for it together.

Please feel free to schedule a consult call via Zencare or my website (click on "Begin Therapy”). I look forward to talking with you!

Specialties

Depression - The defeat, isolation, fogginess - these are all telling you something. We are here to listen deeply, attentively, with gentle curiosity.

Women's issues - Systemic privilege is real. And so is your power. It takes work to heal from the myriad of ways that sexism harms us, so that we can lean into our fierce potential.

Highly Sensitive Person - You're empathic, reflective, and intuitive. (And, spoiler alert: terribly depleted.) Our work together builds on these strengths while staying focused on rejuvenation.

Anxiety - Your over-active inner critic, incredible ability to make thorough (a.k.a. excruciating) decisions, and knee-jerk guilt have you asking, "Did I do it right? Have I done enough?" far too often to be helpful. Step by step, we slow it down to bring your sense of control back.
