Professional statement

Dr. Bruce Killen is a bilingual (Spanish, English) psychotherapist with 30 years experience who believes in his clients, in an innate healing wisdom you all possess, no matter how challenging your life experiences. He now focuses mainly on teens, adults, couples, and Latino clients, and on your unique strengths and talents. Mindfulness, acceptance, and compassion, including for oneself, are his foundational principles no matter which therapeutic model or tools he and his clients decide to work with for their benefit.

He has a broad range of life and professional experience, having worked in the travel and biotech industries before changing careers in his 30s- he believes that experience was crucial in understanding clients working in the "real world," but knew that his love of people and belief in them, as well as his own very positive experience as a therapy client, would bring him to this honored, sacred work. He has a particular love of different cultures, languages, and diversity in people, our uniqueness and inherent goodness.

His Napa office is beautiful, comfortable, and roomy, with redwood trees out the windows, and his San Anselmo office is charming and cozy. He is happy to offer tele-health (online) sessions if clients prefer, with his online, secure portal or Zoom.

Message to clients

Life is challenging, for all of us at times. As children we have to adapt to our circumstances no matter how difficult- it's automatic and in our bodies if you will, we don't even "know" we're doing it, and not your or anybody's fault that we do that. It's based on survival, and millions of years of human evolution. So, it's time to cut yourself a break, to shift to self-compassion and self-acceptance, which are remarkably powerful tools for healing and growth.

You have an innate healing wisdom inside you- the energy or force that heals injuries and illness, where dreams and creativity come from, where love resides and flourishes. We work together to tap into that force- which is always there, no matter what, I guarantee you- so you can heal and get back to You. Ultimately it is a spiritual path, no matter what your spiritual beliefs are, or even if you don't believe you have any.

When I did training in psychedelic assisted psychotherapy in 2019 (and beyond), the most amazing thing I learned, among so many wonderful things, was that what predicted reductions in depression and anxiety the most, in people dying of cancer, was the depth and intensity of their mystical experience while on psilocybin (magic mushrooms) in clinical trials. The science and spiritual converged powerfully- and guess what? You don't have to be on any substance to tap into that innate healing wisdom inside you- it's always there. Let's tap into it together.
