Professional statement

Bryan Batista-Thomas is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in New York, NY. He is passionate about helping patients find a greater sense of fulfillment in their lives. Many of Bryan’s patients begin therapy due to a feeling of constant dread, emptiness, pointlessness, or existential questioning. Bryan helps these patients develop a stronger sense of themselves, take control of their narratives, and move forward in their lives. He also specializes in supporting those who have issues with their gender or sexuality, and those who suffer from intense fears or phobias.

Bryan’s approach to therapy is collaborative and open. By reflecting on past memories and experiences, patients develop a better sense of their background and narrative. He creates a nonjudgemental space filled with curiosity, from which patients explore their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Bryan helps patients become aware of unhealthy patterns and to change these patterns to increase their wellbeing.

Bryan earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University. He also completed a Master's degree in Performance Studies from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He has extensive training in Parent-Infant nonverbal treatment with Beatrice Beebe, Ph.D., Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Eating Disorders, Compulsions and Addictions from the William Alanson White Institute, and more recently psychoanalysis from the Institute of Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR). He brings social justice values and cultural competence to all interactions with patients.

Bryan's office is located conveniently in Midtown, NYC. He also currently conducts virtual sessions with people in New York State, Massachusetts, Georgia, and Kentucky.

Message to clients

I typically work with people who have had multiple prior treatments that have not brought them to where they would like to be in their lives. I am skilled at working with people who have a diffuse sense of self or who experience holes in their sense of experience. My work takes into consideration the wide array of power that exists between people and the ways in which this affects a person's sense of self and how that person can come to experience who they are as a person. I work from a culturally sensitive perspective and facilitate the exploration to find a person's private language and its interaction with others.
