Professional statement

Carla Tamplin is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with a Telehealth practice that serves clients in any part of Ohio. Carla works with women or parents who are having difficulty with any aspect of parenthood. Infertility, miscarriage, infant loss, perinatal depression/anxiety, adoption and birth trauma can make what should be a joyful life transition into a very stressful time. Caregiver burnout can lead to bonding difficulties and trying to find time for self-care and integrating one’s new identity as a parent falls by the wayside as juggling the logistics of childcare, sleeping and feeding take center stage. Carla helps clients restore balance to their life and the lives of their families by focusing on core issues that impact family connection.

Carla’s treatment approach draws from strengths-based and cognitive behavioral treatment approaches. She helps clients find the support systems already present in their lives and strategizes with clients about how to get the help and support they need from family, friends and the community.

Carla’s goals for her clients is that they would successfully complete therapy - to rediscover a “new normal” after children or how to move on to a fulfilling life that does not include one’s own children. Successful completion of therapy means that a client is no longer overwhelmed with depressive or anxious thoughts and has a strong, secure attachment with his or her child.

Carla obtained her Master’s of Social Work degree from The Ohio State University in 2011 and has worked with women and families in a variety of mental health settings since then. She serves on the “Start Strong” committee in her local community, a coalition dedicated to ensuring all babies in the community are thriving on their first birthday. Carla is also a professional member of Postpartum Support International.

Message to clients

Parenting is hard! Or maybe you would give anything for the "hard" of parenting rather than the difficulties of infertility. My professional and personal experiences have led me to feel passionate about helping other people who are walking this journey of parenthood - wherever you find yourself on that path. If you are dealing with infertility, I want to say that you are not alone - although it may feel so isolating - you can reach out for support. If you are dealing with postpartum depression or anxiety, I want to say that you will feel better - we will work together to help you feel like yourself again and like the parent you want to be. If you are dealing with trauma, I want to say that we can work to process it together - you will never forget, but it can become a part of your story and perhaps even a way to help others who are hurting in similar ways.

My hope is that you will always find a safe, non-judgemental space on the other side of your screen when we are together. I count it an immense privilege and honor to hold your story and walk with you on the path to wellness and connection.
