Carly Keaten MA, LPC has had extensive experience working with children (ages 2-12) and adolescences (ages 13-18), as well as adults with trauma related issues. While Carly is well trained in trauma informed care, and able to help you navigate through the most difficult topics, she is also able to help with more common issues surrounding transitions, anxiety, family separation, grief and more as well. While Carly can help Clients of all ages work through trauma and PTSD related issues, she is equip to see children and teens for most issues that might arise.
Carly has worked with children and adolescents in varying contexts, from private practice, to a child and adolescent residential with high trauma and abuse clientele. Through working with these populations she believes early therapeutic intervention is a powerful and impactful resource to provide a child or adolescent. Whether they are struggling with the difficulties of a divorce, having anxiety in daily life, exhibiting explosive behavior, or have gone through extreme trauma most children can benefit from having a safe space to work through and resolve inner turmoil.
The main approaches used in session are person-centered and narrative talk therapy, play therapy, and sand tray therapy. Play Therapy provides for children what talk therapy provides for adults, the difference is children use play as their means of expression and language when processing difficult emotions and experiences. With rich imaginative minds children unfold their stories and inner workings symbolically with the toys and creative mediums available to them. Most emotional experiences get stored in a non-verbal part of the brain making play the perfect medium for a child to voice who they are and what they are feeling. For adolescent and adult Client’s Carly uses creative approaches alongside talk therapy with include, writing, artist expression, and sand tray therapy to aid in the therapeutic process depending on each individuals needs.
As a Christian counselor with training in seminary, Carly's faith directs who she is, and equips her in unique ways to work with Christian clients, however, she works with clients of every belief system without imposing her own.
Carly is located on East 18th St. in Denver, just a few blocks West of City Park and is happy to see Client's both in person or over video depending on their comfort level during the current epidemic.
