Professional statement

Dr. Cassandra Perryman is a mental health counselor located in Eastsound, WA. Dr. Perryman has expertise in supporting clients through traumatic experiences, no matter how far in the past. They also work with clients who are going through identity formation (specifically LGBTQIA+), grief after loss, stress from life challenges, and struggles with anxiety.

Dr. Perryman’s approach to therapy stems from Narrative therapy with Gestalt and psychoanalytic perspectives. They support clients as they explore their personal stories, specifically major moments that shaped who they are and how they live their lives. Dr. Perryman encourages clients to think through their families of origin and how their family structures impact how they function as an adult. Dr. Perryman is identity-affirming, trauma-focused in all therapy sessions, creating a safe and secure environment where clients feel comfortable speaking about what’s going on in their lives.

Dr. Perryman has a PhD in Psychology from the University of Queensland. They’ve previously worked as a researcher and a professor. Their style is dynamic, collaborative, and validating. They enjoy working with the client to determine the course of therapy and how to best grow their mental health to reach a place of comfort, balance, peace, and fulfillment.

Message to clients

Hello! It can be difficult to find a counselor that accepts you on every level. That is exactly what I strive to do. I hold a no-judgment approach and openly discuss issues such as sexuality, gender, traumatic situations, substance use, suicidality, self harm, kink, social inequality, and non-normative relationships. It is my perspective that the purpose of counseling is to help you find the best way to write your own story, not to write a life story that conforms to what others think you should be. I bring the insight of being neurodivergent and non-normative myself.

As a narrative therapist I firmly stand by the statement "The person is not the problem, the problem is the problem". That provides freedom to make mistakes on the way to writing your story, your way. It is my roll to provide a safe place to discuss that journey, make hard choices, and show you that you are supported. You are the captain of your ship I, at most, play the role of a lighthouse.
