Professional statement

Catherine Kiley is a licensed mental health counselor based in NY who provides telehealth services to young professionals and adults who are struggling with anxiety and perfectionism. Many of her clients struggle with feeling stressed, overwhelmed and like they can't control their anxiety. She also helps couples who lack healthy communication skills, are stuck in cycles of having the same fight and are struggling to feel understood and connected in their relationship.

Catherine's approach in therapy is insight oriented in that she will help you get to the root of your problems by exploring connections between your past and present and will help you to uncover unhelpful thinking and behaviors that are holding you back. She will also help you to learn new skills that are helpful in managing and reducing anxiety in the moment and will help you to reframe your narrative so that you go from feeling stuck and anxious to feeling more positive and hopeful in life. Her approach with couples includes providing a safe space for couples to feel heard and understood and to address harmful communication patterns and replace them with positive, healthy communication skills.

Catherine's style is supportive, non-judgmental and accepting so that her clients feel safe to speak freely and openly. She lets you bring to session whatever is on your mind and to explore what is happening for you in the present moment. She listens actively, taking in what you are saying and responding in a way to guide understanding, growth and change. Her goal is to help guide you to positive change and to feel more at peace, balanced and happier in your relationships.

She has completed trainings in anxiety management and treatment, mindfulness based stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Message to clients

If you are struggling with anxiety, you may feel like you are constantly worried or thinking of the worst case scenario. You may feel like you get stuck in your own head thinking things over and over without any resolution. Maybe you experience panic attacks and worry about having another one. Or perhaps you struggle in social situations, second guessing what you say or avoiding them completely. Or maybe you struggle with feeling not good enough, feeling like you need to be constantly productive or feel that you are stuck or frozen, wanting to be productive but unable to follow through. These are common concerns that people experience and therapy can help. If you feel like you are always fighting with your partner or like your partner doesn't understand you, couples counseling can provide the space for you to work through your issues so that you can feel heard and connected again.

Meeting with a new therapist and being open and vulnerable about your experience is not easy, so it’s no surprise if you are hesitant about the idea of therapy but remember that you are entitled to get help, no matter what you are going through. Being in therapy can take courage and can be challenging at times which is why finding the right fit is extremely important so that you are able to speak freely and work through your difficulties. Feel free to set up a phone consultation or email me with any questions.
