Professional statement

Catherine Kiley is a licensed psychotherapist based in New York, NY, who provides individual and couples counseling to adults. Many of her clients report feeling a change in their mood, feeling more anxious than usual or like they don't feel like themselves and aren't enjoying things that they once used to.

Catherine’s approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy, an approach that focuses on making connections from past to present and helping clients understand how their current struggles and patterns are related. Since each person is a unique individual, Catherine’s approach is holistic and unique to who you are and what you need to support your wellbeing. While her approach is primarily talk-based, she likes to draw from other approaches that are intervention based, such as teaching tools and techniques such as addressing and reframing negative thoughts and learning new tools for managing symptoms. She has an additional specialization in anxiety management and treatment, with trainings in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Anxiety Treatment.

She provides a nonjudgmental and accepting enviornment so that you can have a safe place where you can feel understood and feel comfortable talking openly about difficult topics and emotions. Feel free to check out her website, catherinekileycounseling, to learn more about her.

She is currently accepting new patients on telehealth.

Message to clients

Maybe you’ve noticed a change in your mood where you’re feeling more irritable or depressed. Or, you experience anxiety that keeps you from doing things you enjoy. You may struggle with negative thoughts that affect your sense of self-worth.

In therapy we will explore connections between your past and present experiences so you can gain a deeper sense of awareness about yourself, identify problems so you can get to the bottom of why you are feeling the way you area and learn coping skills so you can better manage symptoms and find relief in challenging moments.

We’re told all sorts of misinformed messages that downplay the importance of mental health, so it’s no surprise if you are hesitant or nervous about the idea of therapy but remember that you are entitled to get help, no matter what you are going through. Being in therapy can take courage and can be challenging and difficult at times which is why finding the right fit is extremely important so that you are able to speak freely and work through your difficulties. Feel free to set up a phone consultation or email me with any questions.
