Professional statement

Cathy Betti is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing only virtually in both Illinois and Michigan. She works with older adult individuals and couples. Her current caseload is a largely a mixture of executives, stay-at-home-moms, newlywed couples, and seasoned couples. Cathy particularly enjoys working with: Couples - young couples learning to navigate their relationship, communication and arguments, marriage, children, family boundaries; older couples who have been married 15+ years struggling with communication, infidelity, hiccups, life adjustments such as retiring or empty nesting; individuals who were raised not to process their feelings who are ready to learn to do so; individuals who want help with setting and maintaining boundaries with family/friends/partners; individuals with relationship issues; anxiety; processing family of origin and childhood experiences to learn how they impact individuals and relationships today and how to heal from those moving forward.

Cathy is a systemic therapist trained in Integrative Systemic Therapy. She is not married to one model, but rather pulls from a wide array of models and taylors them to fit each individual client's needs at any given time. She thinks of the system as a whole and how different parts of life impact the individual.

Cathy received her Bachelor of Arts with dual degrees in Management and in Psychology from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She received her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University. Cathy trained at the Bette. D. Harris Clinic at the Family Institute, and was part of the Community Program, working with an underprivileged population in Evanston, Illinois. Cathy is in process obtaining her AAMFT Clinical Supervisor accreditation and is currently supervising multiple students in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Northwestern University. Cathy is also the Executive Director at Mindful Solutions, LLC.

Message to clients

Reaching out for therapy is an extremely vulnerable step. I want you to know that I understand that and am mindful of providing a space in therapy for you to feel safe and comfortable with me. I value alliance over anything else in the therapeutic process. My goal as your therapist is not to judge you or tell you what to do, but work with you to encourage you to become your best self, on your terms, at your pace. Together we'll work to lift any constraints, learn tools and skills, and hopefully gain insights into who you are and why in order to foster the person you want to be today.

In a couples context, I am not the judge or jury. There is no "winning" sessions. My client is the relationship between you and that is my focus. I am here to help guide you in creating a healthy relationship that feels good to both of you.

I genuinely enjoy all of my clients and look forward to sessions with them. I look forward to meeting you to see if we could be a good fit as well! :)
