Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health, LPCMHCathy Larsen is a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health in Rapid City, SD. Cathy works with pre-teens, teens, and adults of all ages. Cathy has over twenty years of experience and has worked with clients from urban, rural, and reservation communities. Many people come because they are stressed, feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed. Whatever the circumstances, Cathy will provide confidential and compassionate care.
Cathy approaches therapy with a client-centered focus and strives to create a professional yet friendly and warm environment for her clients. After all, the most important factor in having a successful experience in therapy is how well the client and the counselor connect. Cathy utilizes techniques from various theories in order to tailor the right approach for each individual. She believes that when people change their thoughts, they can change their lives. Therefore, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is an important part of her practice.
Cathy graduated from South Dakota State University with a Master's in Counseling in 1999. She has had her LPC-MH since 2004. Because of her love of learning, she has taken more than the required amount of continuing education to maintain her license and has studied in numerous areas including grief and loss, trauma, play therapy, chronic pain, solution-focused therapy and more. In addition, she studied substance abuse in depth, and became a Certified Addiction Counselor.
Cathy's office is located in a park-like setting at 2650 Jackson Blvd, Suite 7 in Rapid City, SD . She also offers telehealth sessions.
