Chananya Abraham is a psychotherapist with 2 locations in CT and offers remote sessions for clients in Connecticut and Florida. He works with teenagers, young adults, and their families. Many of Chananya’s clients come in to address life transitions, relationship issues, anxiety, trauma, and addiction issues. Chananya is trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, and logotherapy modalities. Using the whole-person model, Chananya explores the whole individual and assists in the awareness of who we are, what defines us, and how we are affected, within our minds and bodies. In a session, Chananya focuses on grounding and breathing tools that can be used anywhere and at any time and how to stay constantly present and in control. This approach supports clients manage their overall health and well-being by being able to be present and prepared for the types of events and circumstances that life is constantly challenging us with.

Chananya's style is authentic, non-judgemental, and upfront. When clients first start therapy, expect to set goals to not be dependent on the therapy room and to understand the therapeutic process.

Chananya received their MA from the New School of Social Research, NYC & an MS Post University, CT. He has been a licensed LPC in CT for over 5 years. He has worked at local community non-profits and schools serving teens, youth, and families. Outside of private practice, Chananya is involved in local community-based organizations and is starting to get involved in local governmental advocacy He enjoys spending time with his wife and children, and when there is "free" time he enjoys reading, music, and learning more about his profession.

Message to clients

Coming to therapy can be hard. Sharing about yourself can be even harder and finding the right person to help you can be even harder! I like saying it this way: Finding the right therapist for you can be like finding a house, spouse, or pair of shoes- you might need to "try on" a few to find the one that works for you. In other words: BE SELFISH! :)

Not every therapist is for every client, and not every client is for every therapist. The most essential part of the therapeutic process is the relationship you have with your therapist. You are in control of that. I recommend giving it 3-4 sessions to make sure that this is the right fit but know that you are always in control and decide how our room works.

You, and ONLY you have that autonomy.

I am here to try to help based on my training and experience but comfort level and feeling safe is the most important part of the therapeutic process. Please let me know if there is anything you need to me do (or NOT to do) and ALWAYS ask questions. Just because I am a therapist, doesn't mean that I know what is right for you so asking questions and even challenging me can lead to tremendous inner growth and confidence. There is no such thing as a "bad" question, except for the one not asked!
