Charmian Talbot is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor located and credentialed in Rhode Island. Charmian specializes in supporting individuals who would like to reduce or cease their alcohol or drug use. Often, these individuals’ experiences with alcohol and drugs have been largely negative, with interruptions into their careers, relationships, and ability to take care of themselves or believe in themselves. Charmian’s clients have tried to quit but struggle, as their use tends to relate to thoughts, mood, emotions, or memories.
Charmian understands that behavioral therapy centers around relapse prevention and recovery rather than seeing quitting as a one-off episode. She practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help clients develop greater self-awareness and to learn coping strategies. She also incorporates meditation and mindfulness techniques so that clients can learn how to live in the present and withhold self-judgment as well as learn coping skills to help decrease stress and anxiety.
Charmian earned a Master’s degree in Counseling from Salve Regina University. She enjoys celebrating the wins with her clients and affirming their progress as they go through recovery. Her therapy approaches highlight each person’s power in their situations, and with her support, many clients experience personal growth towards a healthier well balanced lifestyle.
