Professional statement

Are you a creative or outside-the-box thinkers who’ve never quite fit into traditional models — and don’t want to? Chauney's typical clients are often artists, neurodivergent or queer individuals, and soulful seekers navigating burnout, transitions, or simply the longing to come home to themselves. Many have tried standard therapy and left feeling unseen, over-intellectualized, or too “much.” Here, they find something different — a place where their sensitivity is a strength, and their full humanity is welcome.

Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Sessions are experiential and deeply personalized, weaving together somatic therapy, mindfulness, creative expression, and the Hakomi method — a gentle, body-based approach to healing that honors the unconscious wisdom of the body. Whether through movement, metaphor, or quiet presence, the work invites clients to explore their inner world with compassion and curiosity, not judgment. Art-making may be used as a tool for insight, but no artistic skill is needed — only a willingness to feel and be real.

With over a decade of clinical experience, Chauney is a registered art therapist and graduate of the Hakomi Institute of California. The work is informed by years of studying trauma, attachment, and nervous system regulation — always with an anti-oppressive, inclusive lens. They specialize in working with creative professionals, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those experiencing midlife shifts, burnout, or identity transitions.

Chauney is based in Los Angeles and offers in-person sessions in Atwater Village and remote sessions to clients across California. Superbills for those with PPO insurance plans seeking reimbursement can be provided. Sessions are offered in a spacious, relational style — honoring the body, the story, and the pace that healing requires.

Message to clients

Before we begin, I want you to know this: you don’t need to be “fixed” to start therapy — you just need to be curious. Many of my clients come in feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like they’re carrying too much. If you’re someone who feels deeply, thinks creatively, or struggles to make sense of things in a world that doesn’t always feel made for you, you’re not alone — and you’re in the right place.

My hope is to offer you a space where all parts of you are welcome — not just the ones you’ve learned to present. I work slowly, relationally, and with deep respect for your nervous system and lived experience. Whether we use words, images, somatic exploration, or silence, therapy is always a collaboration — and you get to set the pace.

You don’t need to know exactly what you want out of therapy right now. All you need is a willingness to begin. I’ll meet you where you are.
