Professional statement

Chemenda Sawyer is a mental health counselor with a private practice in Florida, welcoming individuals across all ages and couples who are seeking to create change in their lives. Clients seek her out for a variety of issues. Clients bring emotional pain, with symptoms that include anxiety and depression. Couples with relationship difficulties that cause them to feel disconnected. Other concerns include feeling unbalanced, stressed and self-criticism. She supports her clients, as they pull back the layers of challenges in order to release painful past experiences and together find ways to re-engage with their loved ones, their careers, and themselves in more meaningful ways.

Sessions are rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based approach that focuses on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, so that they can begin to make targeted change. Working to help clients understand their physical response to external stressors, and begin to problem-solve ways to introduce moments of calm, to choose to respond rather than react in the face of change.

She challenges clients to explore the root cause of their symptoms, gaining new awareness into their emotional and relationship patterns. At the same time, focusing on practical strategies, with an emphasis on relaxation and meditation practices; to help clients feel better in the here and now. She brings awareness to the mind-body connection in the healing process.

Chemenda is committed to maintaining an inclusive practice. She welcomes a wide range of individuals to her practice. Her office serves as a safe harbor to freely process pain, find relief or simply talk it out. Chemenda offers in person therapy sessions, as well as the flexibility of Telehealth therapy sessions, and welcomes new clients to her practice.

Message to clients

It is not uncommon to have times in your life, when you may feel out of control and overwhelmed. This is the case for many of my clients. I work with my clients to manage the stress and chaos in their life. The focus is on finding ways to cope. To bring balance to their life. It's about providing easy to implement changes that will improve their lives, and eliminate some of the stress and anxiety they are feeling.

My philosophy is that mental wellness is about being well in all aspects of your life. When aspect of your life is out of balance eventually the rest of your life will become unbalance as well. To that end I talk a holistic approach to therapy. This approach gives my clients the opportunity to recognize their potentials and limitations allowing them make any necessary changes to heal.
