Professional statement

Cherie Bridges Patrick is a clinical social worker licensed in Ohio. She works with adults over the age of 24. Many of Cherie’s clients come in when they feel stuck or have problems with their emotions, leaving them feeling overwhelmed with stress, sadness, anger, worry, or fear. Cherie is particularly passionate about helping people in the Black community who, through experiences of trauma and racialized stress, feel disconnected from their authentic selves. They are ready to break free from socially imposed narratives to learn how to prioritize their emotional and mental health.

Cherie has advanced trauma training and education and utilizes polyvagal theory, internal family systems, and compassionate inquiry to help clients learn how their autonomic nervous system conditioning contributes to emotional (dys)regulation and (un)healthy patterns of behavior and interaction. In session, Cherie focuses on building her clients’ awareness of how their body sensations, thoughts, feelings, memories, and beliefs inform every aspect of their lives. This approach supports connection to innate resources that help clients feel safe in their own bodies, regulate their emotions, and understand how their lives are impacted. Cherie's style is engaging and intended to build relational safety where clients feel seen and heard.

Cherie received her MSSW from the University of Tennessee. She has worked as a therapist and clinical supervisor in multiple community mental health settings serving youth and families. Outside of private practice, she provides global consulting services in the areas of trauma, polyvagal therapy, and the impact of trauma on state-building and reconciliation processes. Cherie also enjoys hiking in the mountains, connecting with nature, traveling, and photography. Cherie offers remote services.

Message to clients

I get it. We have been everything to everyone, except ourselves. We learned early that our worth was attached to how much we did for others, how well we performed, or how well we stayed invisible or silent. While these strategies were effective for feeling valued or worthy or loveable, trying to outrun the hurt is not working. The pain is moving through you and all of your relationships. It will stay there until you're ready to name it, feel it, process it, and release it.

Emotional healing allows you to know what you know and feel your feelings and not become them. Together we learn to touch into your pain without becoming the narrative and use both to write a new story. We journey to explore how shame, self-betrayal, defensiveness, imposter syndrome, and procrastination show up in your body, thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. We uncover the internal resources that you already have and develop practices that support your healing and growth.

It is my honor to travel with you every step of the way. I provide a safe, holding space for you to navigate your past to find and live into your best self.
