Professional statement

Chris Peters is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) practicing in Larchmont Village, Los Angeles and via Telehealth for all of California.

Chris specializes in helping with all things "relationships" and things that get in the way of having meaningful ones--whether that be your own personal challenges, or interpersonal issues between you and others. Some of these challenges and his specialties include self-esteem, perfectionism, shame, identity development (sexuality and gender), past traumas, infidelity/cheating, arguing, and other clinical challenges. While he specializes in working with the LGBTQIA+ audience, he work with all relationships looking to breakdown the underlying rules and assumptions that make up our meaning of "love" or the perfect "partner(s)".

His approach varies depending on the client and their level of connection internally to their thoughts, feelings and connection to the body. Chris believes healing requires connection to all three, and different levels of therapy help with each. His primary forms of therapy include Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Psychodynamic, and a blend of other empirically supported treatments, where it serves the client.

Chris provides free consultations (about 20 minutes) to determine fit prior to scheduling a first session and these are done over Zoom. You can expect to have a brief understanding of who he is, how he works and the fee that would be associated with his services ($185 individuals, $225 couples/relationships) by the end of that consultation before you decide to move froward.

Message to clients

Hello! I realize this process is quite awkward and can be defeating. I'm here to help you process these feelings, and any others that surface for you both during this process and into therapy.

I'm not here to tell you what to do and how to fix things--that would assume our lives are identical and what works for one person works for everyone. Sure, there are some things we have seen via research that work in a % of cases, and we will discuss these. However, our work is to find what best works for you, not by labeling you with a problem and applying something to "fix" you, but by looking at what is not working for you and why at some point that may have served a helpful purpose in the past. Our human software is built of a child's experience, sometimes that sucker needs an update!

Some sessions we need to cry, some we need to laugh, and others we just need to sit there and scream at me. I'm not here to force healing down your throat, but to meet you where you are at and what you are ready for. I do my best to outline the options and join you on your journey!
