Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT PhDChris Tickner works in-person in both Pasadena, CA and Sacramento, CA, and also online with folks all over California. He sees individuals, couples and groups, primarily adults, who might be struggling with a wide range of issues, from anxiety to trauma, from depression to low self-esteem, from premarital counseling to surviving an affair.
Most of the issues people struggle with in life stem from our childhood. Any early experience, whether good or bad, will have a huge impact on how we experience life later on. Because our brains develop from the bottom up, and the right to the left, we cannot simply rely on talk therapy to overcome any adverse experience from our childhoods. This is why the fields of psychology and neuroscience have proven the necessity to utilize body-based (somatic) and present-moment (mindfulness) approaches.
Chris has over 25 years of experience, a PhD in Somatic Psychology, and advanced training in various approaches to healing anxiety, trauma and relational issues. He specializes in trauma therapy, couples counseling, and anxiety therapy.
Couples counseling - Addressing relationship challenges and life transitions; strengthening communication and feelings of security, desire, connection, and love
Somatic Psychology - An approach to therapy that incorporates the body and mind. It relies on cutting edge neuroscience as well as practices and disciplines that are thousands of years old.
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Divorce & separation - Questioning or feeling unsatisfied in your relationship; contemplation and navigation of separation; addressing issues of power, voice, and communication challenges
Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse
Premarital counseling - Providing a safe and neutral environment for couples to explore expectations and prepare for the rewards and challenges of marriage
