Professional statement

Christina de Cossio is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT, specializing in Somatic Psychotherapy, and is based in Northern California. She is also a Master Therapist in the Neuro Affective Relational Model, NARM, approach.

Somatic Psychotherapy incorporates the body and the mind as an interconnected whole in the therapy process. NARM® integrates a body-centered and psychodynamic approach, within a context of interpersonal neurobiology, grounded in mindfulness and is a phenomenological approach to addressing identity and consciousness of Self.

Christina de Cossio helps young adults and adults who struggle with shame, self-acceptance, relationship conflict or loss, a sense of disassociation from the body, issues with love and sexuality, codependency, self-sabotage, and stress. She feels passionate about helping clients develop new skills and capacities so they can break through old patterns and identifications that are no longer serving them.

As both a psychotherapist and embodiment educator, Christina de Cossio also offers training in biological and psychological development, our survival system, and adaptive resilience in order to support people in broadening their understanding and perspective about the effects of stress and what they can do about it.

Christina strives to provide trauma informed and culturally-sensitive care, is an ally to people of color, and affirms the LGBTQ+ community. She welcomes you to reach out and looks forward to collaborating with you towards health and fulfillment.

Message to clients

I want you to know that freedom from the effects of adverse experiences is possible. I hold humility, capacity, and some fierce tools and skills for helping people navigate home to their sense of center and health. It's my professional and personal purpose to help people move forward beyond survival and towards embodied wholeness.

The majority of people who work with me have an intuition or knowledge that including their body and nervous system into the therapy process is needed. Sometimes they’ve tried traditional talk or behavioral therapies and want something different. Sometimes they have a history of trauma or something recent has happened that makes them feel out of control or stuck in familiar patterns that are getting in the way of moving forward in their life.

This is what you can expect working together: directness, focus, attuned awareness, compassionate confrontation, curiosity, radical acceptance, and listening feedback on multiple levels of experience. We incorporate your strengths and resources, and I offer somatic mindfulness techniques and psychobiological education along the way.

I'm happy to meet with you for a consultation.
