Professional statement

Christine Courtney, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Fairfax, VA, is the founder of Everyday Life Counseling, where she provides therapy services to individuals 18+, and couples. With well over a decade of experience, Christine is a neurodivergent affirming therapist who specializes in addressing anxiety, relationship issues, and trauma. Christine has a particular focus on working with fellow therapists, along with veterans, military service members, and their families.

A significant aspect of Christine's work involves helping clients navigate relationship challenges stemming from attachment-related issues, family dynamics, or past traumatic experiences. In her therapy sessions, Christine employs an attachment-focused approach, guiding clients to explore how their past experiences and relationships impact the current relationships and stressors. Christine utilizes her versatile training and professional experience to create an individualized experience for each of her clients. In her work with couples, Christine uses Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples, an attachment-based therapy modality that fosters vulnerability and emotional connection between partners.

Christine received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Elmira College, NY and her Master’s in Social Work from Syracuse University. She offers in-person therapy sessions to clients in her home state of Virginia, as well as convenient teletherapy sessions, as well as to clients in DC and the state of Tennessee.

Message to clients

I want clients to come as they are and not have to worry about what's ok to say and what's not. If you want to swear, yell, be silent, use dark humor...etc...I welcome it and might even join in! I work with you to build a relationship where we work together to get you where you want to go. This looks different for everyone, so I'll bring my expertise, and you bring your expertise on yourself, and we'll figure things out together.

As a neurodivergent affirming therapist, it can be helpful to know that I am neurodivergent myself (ADHD) and have a child with ADHD. While my personal experiences are not that of everyone's, it can be comforting to know I have a lived experience in the roles of personal and parenting, in addition to clinical experience.

To my fellow therapists out there, it can be so difficult to find a good fit for a therapist for ourselves right!? I provide a space that allows for you to take the therapist hat off and just show up as you. Naturally, it might find it's way back, however part of my role is offering to help to carve out that space and boundary. I provide a zero-judgement space, with no expectations other than to help support your goals. For the therapists who would prefer to learn as we go, I'm happy to support clinical feedback and/or case consultation, should that be of interest as well.
