Claire Johnson is a psychotherapist in NY. She works primarily with young adults and many of Claire’s clients come in to address depression, trauma, life transitions, anxiety, and shame. Claire has a particular interest in serving recent college graduates and those experiencing a quarter life crisis to help them find a meaningful direction.
Claire is trained in psychodynamic therapy, experiential and relational therapy, and mindfulness, in which we use the therapeutic relationship to look at how patterns of interaction have developed and can be used to strengthen connections outside of session. The therapeutic space will also help you reconnect with your emotional experience in a way that doesn't feel so overwhelming. In session, Claire focuses on breathing exercises and grounding tools that can be practiced in stressful situations. This approach supports clients to are able to make choices that are more aligned with their values, goals, and with their overall well-being in mind.
Claire's style is warm, thoughtful, and non-judgmental. When clients first start therapy, she emphasizes building a trusting relationship and start to understand their story and where they would like to go. Using a client-centered lens, the sessions will be collaborative and open.
Claire received their masters in Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University. She has experience working at outpatient and inpatient facilities treating a wide range of presenting concerns. Outside of private practice, she enjoys quality time spent with friends, hiking and reading historical fiction novels.
