Professional statement

Colette Coleman is a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Concord, MA who offers both in-office and home-based therapy. She specializes in anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, OCD, compulsive behaviors, phobias, and depression. She sees children and adults across the lifespan, but especially enjoys working with adolescents and young adults. Having worked with kids in other settings, Colette is able to connect with young clients, especially those with ADHD, autism, and/or anxiety.

Colette often utilizes both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure Response Prevention Therapy (ERP) while including other modalities as she sees fit. When working with clients with OCD or compulsive behaviors, Colette has them do the fear without the ritual, like touching a contaminated item without washing their hands, to help the anxiety start to wane. She takes a skills-oriented approach when working with all of her clients by helping them develop healthier coping strategies or better understand their symptoms and triggers. When working with children, they focuses on distress tolerance and developing social skills.

Colette’s clients are motivated to make changes in their life, and she is ready to help them get there.

Message to clients

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is considered to be one of the most effective therapies for anxiety and depression. CBT with exposure and response prevention (ERP) is considered to be the first-line treatment modality for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). I have received extensive training and have over 18 years of experience working with client who suffer from OCD and OC related disorders such as excessive concerns about their health (Hypochondriasis), excessive concerns about their appearance (Body Dysmorphic Disorder), and hoarding disorder.
In addition to practicing CBT for OCD, including exposure and response prevention (ERP) techniques, I incorporate DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the new mindfulness-based approach Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) - Reducing unwanted intrusive thoughts and rituals by gradually building comfort and confidence facing difficult fears, thoughts, and emotions

Compulsive behavior - Coping with overwhelming urges and impulses, such as hair pulling or skin picking; developing alternative ways to reduce stress and alleviate suffering

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Panic disorders - Building coping skills to identify and manage triggers; explore underlying causes related to feelings of panic

Phobias & fears - Providing techniques and support to overcome intense fear, anxiety, and panic related to specific triggers, such as heights or crowded spaces

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
