Professional statement

CP Handler is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Miami Beach, FL. CP specializes in treating aftereffects of trauma, which includes not only traumatic events  but also intergenerational trauma, racial injustice, spiritual abuse, and unresolved childhood needs. Her clients come to therapy because they feel like they can’t remain present in their lives, instead feeling consumed by painful memories or uncontrollable emotions. This can lead to mental health conditions and conflicts with loved ones. CP particularly enjoys helping parents and their children grow their relationships.

CP uses a variety of person-centered therapy approaches. She takes a holistic approach to treating her clients, encouraging the client to pay attention to their physical, social, spiritual, and emotional needs. She often brings mindfulness practices into sessions to help clients stay grounded and to reconnect with their bodies. One of her most commonly used modalities is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which helps clients move forward past distressing memories. She also draws from Emotional Freedom Technique and Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

CP earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Long Island University. She views the client as the expert on their own healing journey and strives to create a safe, warm atmosphere in each session. She teaches clients how to tap into their resilience to cope with their traumas.

Message to clients

If you are thinking of embarking on the journey of healing, growth, and recovery you have come to the right place. I find beauty in helping clients understand and honor the roots of their current struggles. I believe that every maladaptive behavior was adaptive at some point and that "self-sabotage" is simultaneous with self-protection. I support clients as they uncover how these patterns have kept them safe throughout their life and begin to heal their underlying pain at its source. I help clients release energy that is stuck in their nervous system as they discover the freedom that accompanies post-traumatic growth.

I also specialize in parenting and breaking the cycle of intergenerational trauma. I believe in the power of the parent-child relationship, as Bessel Van Der Kolk stated: "The parent-child connection is the most powerful mental health intervention known to mankind." I have tremendous admiration for parents and work with parents who struggle with connecting, guiding, and loving their children. I believe that each child is a diamond waiting to shine and that as with diamonds, some require more time, patience, and attention than others.

I would love the opportunity to work with you and look forward to joining you on your journey of growth and recovery.
