Professional statement

Are you a college student or young adult finding it hard to deal with everyday life or a stressful transition? Is your child or adolescent struggling with their mental health? Has your child experienced abuse or a traumatic event and having difficulty coping? Are you a parent looking for new strategies to better manage your child's behavior or communicate with your child?

Crosby Modrowski, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist based in Rhode Island with specialized training in working with children, adolescents, young adults, and caregivers. She is

Dr. Modrowski obtained her PhD from the University of Utah and completed her predoctoral residency and postdoctoral fellowship at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Though she has received in-depth training in several evidence-based treatment modalities for a broad range of clinical concerns, Dr. Modrowski has obtained years of specialized training in order to provide trauma-focused interventions to children and adolescents who have been exposed to a potentially abusive or traumatic event and who may be experiencing elevated posttraumatic stress symptoms. Additionally, Dr. Modrowski has expertise in working with adolescents and young adults who are experiencing risky or unsafe behaviors, such as substance use or suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Dr. Modrowski’s clinical approach typically combines strategies from several research-based frameworks, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and, when appropriate, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Dr. Modrowski is self-pay only. Itemized receipts (superbills) are provided to submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement. When you submit to insurance, they will reimburse you a percentage of the session fee (some plans up to 80%, though it varies by individual plan). Please check with your insurer to inquire about your out-of-network coverage. Sliding scales can occasionally be negotiated.

Message to clients

My overall goal is to provide children, adolescents, young adults, and caregivers skills to overcome the difficult emotions and behaviors that are causing disruptions in daily life. I take a non-judgmental and flexible approach with the overarching goal of working collaboratively to meet your goals.

For children and teen clients, I involve parents/caregivers to the greatest extent possible. Your perspective as a caregiver is invaluable, and your involvement in therapy is critical to your child’s success in therapy. At a minimum, I hope to have a brief check-in with parents at each appointment. If more time is needed to focus on parenting skills or the parent-child relationship, I am available for parent-only sessions.

So, how do we get started? First, we will meet to complete an initial intake appointment, during which I will gather background information and hear about your current concerns, as well as your long-term goals. During this appointment, I will also ask you/your child to complete standardized measures that will provide further insight into the current problems you and/or your child are facing. After the intake appointment, we will work together to create a tailored treatment plan. Our goals will be specific, measurable, and time-focused. Progress towards meeting treatment goals will be tracked on an ongoing basis, and we will adjust our goals if needed. We will decide together how often appointments will occur.
