Cynthia Valentine is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in San Diego, CA, who helps clients navigate such issues as anxiety, panic disorders, life transitions, and depression. Compassionate and engaging, Cynthia's clients often tell her she's friendly, funny and tends to get straight to point. To her, life isn't that complicated; it's uncomfortable sometimes, but not complicated. She takes the same approach to therapy. Therapy doesn't always feel good but there is a meaningful way forward. She'll invite you to feel your feelings, and sometimes that's hard, but this time you have back up.
Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), she'll teach you how to open up to the present moment using mindfulness skills that actually work for you. . She'll teach you what acceptance really means, and how to practice it so it makes a difference in your life. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy isn't complicated. It is an approach that helps you develop psychological flexibility. Rigid thinking serves very precise purposes and when our feelings don't fit into those purposes, we struggle. Becoming more flexible, and learning to hold our thoughts and feelings with less rigidity, allows us more space, mentally and physically, to engage in things that really matter to us.
Cynthia's professional background includes working with addiction, anxiety depression, in-patient and teens. She takes ongoing training seriously and continues to level-up her skills and working knowledge of therapy. After getting her MA in 2015, she worked in various settings including in-patient for addiction and serious mental illness, with kids and teens in the school setting and after becoming licensed in 2018, opened her private practice, Let's Begin Therapy.
