Professional statement

Therapy is an intersectional tool that should be used to aid in of self-actualization throughout all clients. As a future therapist, Danashia McLaughlin holds certain values that ensures that she not only provides such experiences but that she creates these spaces for those like herself. As a person of Color, it can feel like an impossible task to find a therapist that understands the intersectional biases one may experience. The goal of therapy is to be a relatable being in an effort to understand such experiences. It has become her goal to not only be a pillar within the mental health community but to also provide QUALITY therapy to BIPOC.

It is such a privilege to walk into spaces and see an abundance of faces that look and represent an experience you can relate to. To be able to sit in front of someone and share the depths of your fears and insecurities with them is an experience that BIPOC often don’t get to be a part of. To be understood through shared experiences is deeper than empathy, it creates a therapeutic relationship like no other. The elimination of judgment helps you engage in the session in a way that fosters deeper understanding of your own abilities.

Throughout the sessions, it will be upheld that you are in charge of your treatment, you will be given the courage to not only believe it yourself but to put it into action. Methodologies that include humanistic and empirical techniques will be used to create an individualistic modality to help each client. With background in crisis intervention and counseling, the sessions will be brought together using evidence based ideas as well as some holistic techniques like deep breathing and meditation.

Message to clients

My hope for our sessions together is that I am able to be that professional support system that allows for growth and prosperity. I believe that therapy is a working model and that we are forever going to be working on becoming better versions of ourselves. Together we will work on your ability to assume such responsibilities within your life. Choosing to take steps forward is not an easy decision, making it to our website took courage and it will be that courage that will be used as an aid in your treatment. You are dealing with a lot, and chances are you are feeling as though you are at your wits end. The choice you made in deciding it what was time for therapy shows that you are ready for change. Whatever that change is, I will be there supporting you and helping you. I feel that therapy is about being a good listener and I hold that quality, but also in a session with me expect a more directive approach. I will point out inconsistencies and patterns that can be contributing to your overall well-being. Together we will broaden our understanding of these patterns and their origins. You will never be expected to do it alone, every step of the way I will be there but it will be your strength that carries you towards your goals.
