I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in the treatment of psychological trauma and a lot of other problems that can arise from these horrific events. That includes depression, anxiety and substance use disorders, among others, but my primary focus is on PTSD. I’ve been doing this work for over 20 years, with survivors of childhood abuse, physical assaults, domestic violence, serious accidents, natural disasters, as well as with veterans, refugees and first responders.

Sometimes people affected by traumatic events can recover on their own or with the help of friends and family, but for other people, these events continue to affect them long after the trauma is over. When this happens, it’s wise to seek professional help. I use a behavioral approach (primarily Exposure Therapy) which is pretty straightforward, and I make sure that all my patients understand exactly what we are doing and how it works before we start. I think it’s important that you are making informed decisions about your care and that we are on the same page at all times.

Of course this work can be difficult, but most of my patients find it worth it. Although memories of these events will never be pleasant or even okay, with successful treatment they won't interfere with getting things done anymore and any lingering reactions become manageable, allowing you to get on with living your life.
