Professional statement

Former Chicago Fire Department paramedic Dawn Sage-Chychula is a licensed clinical professional counselor and the owner of her own practice, Frontline Centers in Illinois. As a former first responder, she advocates for those in the 'helping' profession, and those devoted to 'fixing' or 'saving' others, often at the expense of their personal health and safety.

She treats various distressing symptoms and issues that arise due to abnormal events and experiences. First responders often have a traumatic past that is compartmentalized or buried with their work-related experiences resulting in 'burnout' or PTSD.
PTSD can include experiencing disturbing triggers, from hidden or unresolved traumatic experiences, childhood abuse, sexual assault, domestic abuse, or relational trauma. These past or present traumatic events can be processed safely with the appropriate treatment. Dawn truly understands and can help you get to a better place, a better life, a better you.

In therapy, Dawn will teach you coping strategies and provide other tools that will allow you to feel more adjusted, in control, hopeful, and 'unstuck.' You will unpack, make sense of, and problem solve, allowing you to develop better insight and growth.

Dawn incorporates TF-CBT (trauma-focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy) and MB-CBT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavior Therapy) techniques. She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and certified in telehealth services.

She is relational and has a direct, warm, and trusting relationship with her clients. To her, trust is the cornerstone. She encourages collaboration and engages with her client's treatment plan with a team approach.

Dawn's career as a paramedic allows her to identify the complexities and challenges frontline workers regularly encounter. She identifies with the numerous, multi-facet issues and job stressors from a "street view" perspective. She most definitely “gets it”.
