Professional statement

Deborah Johanson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Lake Oswego not far from Portland. She works with adults of all ages - individuals and couples. Many of Deborah’s clients come in to address sexual/intimacy concerns, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transition, and personal growth. Deborah is particularly passionate about serving those who are eager to make positive changes in their lives. She also has advanced training in the area of holistic sexuality, and trauma.

Deborah is trained in holistic approaches such as mindfulness, energy work, somatic experiencing, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, and cognitive behavioral therapy. She has trained in a variety of additional treatment modalities in order to work with clients based on the individual needs. In session, Deborah focuses on intuitive listening, direct communication, insight, and problem solving which all can be used in a client's personal life. This approach supports clients to feel heard, seen, and understood. They are able to make choices about their lives which align internally, providing greater satisfaction in life.

Deborah's style is nonjudgmental, collaborative, and caring. When clients first start therapy, Deborah works to develop connection with a focus on client's emotional safety, needs, and goals.

Deborah received her MSW from Walla Walla University. She has worked in a wide range of professional environments - from working with the Court system, on both a Psychiatric and Intensive Care Unit in a hospital, in the K-12 school system, teaching as an adjunct at two Universities, and working in County Mental Health. Outside of private practice, she enjoys hiking, bicycling, dance, bouldering, and kayaking. She is also passionate about racial/social justice. Her office is easily accessible off of I-5.

Message to clients

Finding someone who you can connect with, trust with your innermost self, and open up to and share your hopes and dreams with the goal of fulfilling them can feel overwhelming....and exciting as well. This is true especially in the areas of sexuality and emotional wellness. It takes courage, vulnerability, and motivation to make changes, and having an emotionally and psychologically safe space to do that work is paramount.

Often, in therapy, other concerns come up that are impacting life satisfaction, and those can be addressed as well. With 24 years experience there is little that surprises me. And clients tell me, often, that their work with me provides needed insight, and is rewarding.

I look forward to hearing from you; and working together to create the trust and safety that will enable you to accomplish what you want in your life!
