Dominique Barritt is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Downtown Orlando. She works with adults as individuals or couples. Many of Dominique’s clients come in to address trauma, dissociation, gender identity, attachment wounds, and PTSD. Dominique is particularly passionate about serving people battling with Complex PTSD and Dissociative Disorders, adults working to develop and maintain healthy emotional boundaries with others, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. She also have advanced training in the area of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Gender Dysphoria, and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
Dominique is a Certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapist and a Certified Sex Therapist. She is also trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Interpersonal Process Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The integration of these approaches uses the brain's natural processing system to reduce the reactionary response to past traumatic events, while improving the internal communication of all parts of oneself. In session, Dominique teaches breathing exercises and grounding tools that can be practiced in stressful situations outside of session. This approach supports clients to feel more present and connected, while discovering a whole and satisfying sense of self.
Dominique's style is warm, engaging, and non-judgmental. When clients first start therapy, she works to develop an empathic and compassionate environment, in which clients feel safe to explore their difficult histories and create meaningful change for themselves.
Dominique received her MA from the University of North Florida. She has worked at local community agencies, serving survivors of trauma, neglect, and interpersonal violence. Outside of private practice, She enjoys music, museums, true crime books, and sharing good food and better conversation with her favorite people. Dominique offers both in-person therapy at her office on East Concord Street and remote therapy sessions through a HIPAA-compliant platform.
