Professional statement

Dr. Johanna Hays is a trauma-focused depth psychologist who has been in practice for the past ten years, assisting individuals in healing trauma and finding new meaningful experiences through that healing. She is a body-centered and somatic therapist, which focuses on acknowledging and communicating with symptoms to achieve resolution to bodily reactions and syndromes that may be life-long. Working through unique protocols such as Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, Somatic Resilience and Regulation, hypnotherapy as well as Post-Jungian approaches, Dr. Hays has guided clients through the healing process and the release of the grip that trauma can have on the body, mind and spirit.

Message to clients

As a trauma specialist, I have seen the difficulties, frustration and hopelessness that trauma symptoms can bring. Few of us escape life without experiencing trauma to some degree. It can be from our earliest experiences or more recent interactions, and it can be physical, emotional, or psychological. Those experiences create a lens that we look out at the world from, that become etched into our memory, and can cause us to color the information coming in to us as well as the information we give out. This is often times beneath our conscious awareness.

By bringing awareness to these processes, we can begin to change them. With change, comes healing, and with healing, we can find a return to balance, nervous system regulation, and contentment. By focusing and communicating with our emotional and somatic (body-based) reactions and symptoms, we can begin to understand the stories that our systems are constantly telling us that are, simply put; trying to keep us safe. Because every person is unique, so must be the approach to healing. My clients learn these important tools and take them with them for life.

My approach to healing works equally well in person or remotely. My hope is to be the guide that can help my clients find their way back to peace, contentment, and self-knowledge.
