Professional statement

Elizabeth Woody is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate located in San Antonio, TX. Elizabeth supports teenagers, young adults, and adults in both individual and couples settings. Many of Elizabeth’s clients constantly seek acceptance, basing their whole self-worth on the opinions of others. They suffer from heightened levels of stress in their lives, which may have originated from perfectionistic tendencies or trauma. They struggle to regulate their emotions, including emotions like fear, loneliness, sadness, frustration, or disappointment.

Elizabeth helps her clients navigate these difficult emotions through the use of several evidence-based therapy modalities. Clients grow their self-compassion, learning to tell their story of resilience through narrative therapy. They also benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a therapy modality that reduces the negative self-talk that results in low self-esteem and low self-worth. Elizabeth also incorporates mindfulness practices in her work with clients, helping individuals slow down and observe their thoughts rather than get stuck in thought spirals. Her goal is to show clients how to reframe core issues and internalize that they are strong people who deserve to feel happy.

Elizabeth earned a Master’s degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is supervised by Robert K. Franklin PhD, LPC-S. She is a collaborative therapist who lets the client lead their own treatment. By showing clients that they are innately resilient, she helps them feel in control of their lives and emotions so they can feel confident when facing stress.

Message to clients

Come as you are. Creating compassion and empathy for yourself is different than making excuses for unwanted behaviors. Why do we make the choices we do in our lives? Sometimes the answers are slow in coming or they may change over time. Finding support and feeling supported during challenging periods is essential for our own personal growth. Together, we will develop a collaborative and supportive relationship.

Tell your story. The stories we tell ourselves about who we are dictate what we think about our self-worth. Using narrative therapy, you get to re-examine the stories that shaped your identity and personal values. Reframing core issues, looking at them through a different lens, allows you to separate yourself from the problem.

Find acceptance. As sensitive beings we have a need to be seen and heard as our true selves. Communicating our thoughts and feelings effectively with others is necessary to being understood and accepted. In therapy, learning cognitive behavioral strategies helps connect your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to see their influence on each other.

Therapist's note

Insurance companies often dictate the details of your treatment including location (in-person/telehealth), length of sessions, number of sessions allowed, payment with approved diagnosis, etc. When you choose self pay, your therapist has more freedom to provide you the treatment that is best for your individual needs:

1. You can have phone/video sessions when necessary without concern of insurance denial.

2. Therapists can spend more time than the standard 52 minutes per session.

3. Parents, spouses and/or significant others can join sessions as needed without concern for insurance denial.

4. Therapists do not have to diagnose you, and they can use the type of treatment they think is best without restriction.

5. You can see your therapist for as many sessions as you need. Not the number determined by your insurance company.
