Dr. Ellen Kanner is a clinical psychologist practicing on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Huntington, Long Island. With over 35 years of experience, she brings a seasoned eye and solution-oriented approach to a wide range of individuals and couples. Her goal is to empower clients to resolve challenges quickly and decisively, learning to balance the day-to-day demands of work, relationships, and distressing symptoms.
Dr. Kanner’s approach is highly individualized and comprehensive. She works collaboratively with each client to develop a treatment plan that targets key issues and delivers meaningful results. Her style is direct and integrative, helping clients to gain insight into underlying challenges and build new coping skills. In addition to traditional talk therapy, Dr. Kanner offers Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and clinical hypnosis to help clients heal from trauma and address problematic self-soothing strategies, like emotional avoidance and alcohol misuse.
Dr. Kanner looks at each client holistically, acknowledging the importance of the connection between physical and emotional well-being. She supports clients to develop a daily routine that supports their overall life goals, and may include exercise, improved sleep hygiene, and mindfulness practices.
Dr. Kanner graduated with her PhD in clinical psychology from Fordham University. She has worked extensively in hospitals and completed her internship at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. She has completed post-graduate workshops at Harvard University School of Medicine, Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Columbia University School of Physicians and Surgeons, and the New York Institute for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies.
