Professional statement

Emilio is a queer, Latine/x cisgender man based in Upper Manhattan. Emilio holds a Master of Social Work from Columbia University and a B.S. in Public Health Science from the University of Maryland.

Prior to his career as a therapist, Emilio dedicated himself to serving individuals, groups, and families within the community health and humanitarian sectors. His clinical expertise encompasses supporting LGBTQ+ adults, older adults (60+), immigrants, and asylum seekers. These diverse experiences played a crucial role in honing his communication and empathy skills, while also igniting a deep curiosity and passion for fostering resilience in the human spirit.

Emilio's unique background, stemming from his bicultural heritage and personal experiences both as a client and clinician, informs his therapeutic approach through a social justice lens. He strives to create a gentle, collaborative, and encouraging environment, with the focus squarely on you as an individual within your unique circumstances.

He firmly believes that therapy can be an empowering and transformative journey, offering a brave space for growth and healing. Throughout this process, you will have the opportunity to explore and tap into your adaptive strengths, values, communities, as well as other internal and external resources to navigate life's challenges.

Beyond my passion for this work, I find great joy in the dynamic energy of New York City. I am based in Upper Manhattan, and the vibrant diversity and bustling atmosphere inspire me daily. But amidst the excitement, I also appreciate the simple pleasures of life, whether it's unwinding at a cozy local coffee shop or connecting with nature.

I firmly believe in the transformative power of therapy, as it presents a brave space for growth and healing. During our sessions, you'll have the chance to delve into and utilize your flexible strengths, inherent value, social connections, and inner reservoirs.
