Professional statement

Emily Giannotti is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the Greater Boston area working predominantly with adolescents and adults. Many of her clients come in when they are experiencing increased feelings of stress, anxiety, or sadness and are looking for a space of support. Emily is particularly passionate about serving young adults navigating periods of heightened change, exploration, and adjustment. She also has training in the area of conflict resolution, in which she is pursuing a second graduate degree.

Emily is trained in various approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, humanistic therapy, and solution-focused counseling. With an integrative perspective, she tailors approaches to clients’ needs. In session, Emily focuses first on basic humanistic conditions of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness in support of client openness. She then centers both thoughts and feelings to explore areas where unmet needs and unhelpful thinking patterns may be contributing to distress. This approach supports clients to realize their innate self-healing capabilities, identify techniques that resonate most, and make meaning of their life experience.

Emily’s style is relational, empathetic, and relaxed. When a client first comes in, she works on building an authentic therapeutic alliance, collaborating to identify what feels important to work on and exploring preliminary steps toward growth. She is dedicated to providing a relationship that is strengths-based, client-centered, and genuine.

Emily received both her bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation and Human Services and her master’s degree in Counselor Education from Pennsylvania State University. She has experience in school-based therapy, outreach community mental health, and higher education, which inspires her appreciation of the diversity of human experience, as well as the common humanity in us all. Outside of private practice, she enjoys running, true crime podcasts, and spending time with her fiancé, stepson, and cat, Penelope.

Message to clients

Greetings! In practice, I picture psychotherapy as a road built on empathy, validation, and authenticity that we will travel together toward a more whole and well you. Along the way, we will incorporate techniques from various evidenced based approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, to facilitate increased awareness and self-healing. Whether we are restructuring unhelpful negative thinking patterns, exploring deeply held emotional responses, or practicing mindfulness, I view our work as rooted firmly in a supportive relationship yet flexible to your evolving needs and the changing landscape. With a relaxed style and empathic space, my hope for you is increased wholeness and wellness, however that journey looks for you.
