Erika Nagy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with young adults, adults, couples, and parents of teens and young adults. She has over 20 years of experience in private practice, helping clients navigate such issues as anxiety, trauma, relationships, and work stress.
Individual clients often come to Erika when they’re experiencing elevated levels of anxiety or panic, which could stem from childhood trauma or negative experiences. She uses a melded approach that incorporates the open-ended nature of psychoanalysis with the mind-body awareness of Somatic Experiencing and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. She is able to incorporate all or one of these modalities as needed. Erika's ability to use one or more of these therapeutic approaches empowers clients to both explore deep-rooted causes of anxiety or depression, while also learning practical tools to self regulate, feel grounded, and help manage day to day difficulties with more ease.
Additionally, Erika is a trained PACT couples therapist who often sees couples for such issues as difficulty reconciling communication styles, intimacy concerns, infidelity, parenting issues, or transitioning to an empty nest.
Erika believes strongly in the fundamental power and importance of human connection. She looks forward to helping her clients work towards a place where they are fully engaged in the present, foster authentic relationships, and live a more joyful, satisfying life.
Years of Experience: 26 years
Couples and relationship issues - Addressing relationship challenges and life transitions; strengthening communication and feelings of security, desire, connection, and love. Includes work with couples with cultural and religious differences and couples who are in newly committed relationships
Somatic Experiencing Practitioner - All feelings have a body component and sometimes the body holds important information in physical symptoms; works with a body process orientation that can provide a way to work with somatic symptoms including tension, pain and fatigue and the emotions that come with those feelings
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) - A trauma treatment that helps process distressing memories and restore the brain's natural healing abilities. In addition to other therapeutic techniques, the therapist leads the client in a series of lateral eye movements while focusing on a difficult memory, reducing any overwhelming feelings connected to past experiences, and allowing for emotional healing
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
