Professional statement

Erin Nisonger is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Eagle River, Alaska. She enjoys working with couples, adolescents and young adults, and clients of all ages recovering from difficult life transitions and past challenges. Many of Erin’s clients come in to address relationship issues, healing from past trauma, grief, anxiety, and depression. Erin is particularly passionate about helping couples and parents to reconnect. She also has advanced training in the treatment of PTSD and Complex PTSD.

Erin is trained in EMDR, the Gottman Method, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and multicultural counseling. These approaches help clients let go of the burdens of past trauma or unproductive relationship patterns and find new ways of connecting with themselves and the world around them. In session, Erin focuses on safe ways to help clients be in the present moment through mindfulness and strengthening connections between the body and mind. This approach supports clients to feel greater confidence in making intentional decisions in their lives that match their values and goals.

Erin's style is warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental. When clients first start therapy, she will create a safe environment where they can share openly and work toward their therapy goals together. Erin uses a wellness model and sees her clients as capable people with strengths and resources, never as someone who is sick or broken.

Erin received her MS in Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling from Capella University. She has worked at local inpatient hospitals and residential clinics, and managed an outpatient program serving clients of all ages, cultures, and needs. Outside of private practice, she enjoys playing the piano and being in the beautiful Alaskan outdoors with her loved ones. As a provider trained in telehealth, Erin offers remote teletherapy sessions that can fit seamlessly and conveniently into active schedules.

Message to clients

It is so helpful to have a dedicated time to let go of burdens that weigh you down, where you can feel listened to and supported. You might benefit from finding new ways to approach a problem. I am so honored to walk alongside my clients for a time and provide that support.

I only use therapy that has been proven to help people, and I customize therapy for each client's needs and goals. I love questions. I am always open to hearing client feedback so that I can continue to grow, and each client can have the best outcome possible. My favorite part of being a therapist is working myself out of a job, when a client is doing so well that they are ready to end therapy!

My hope for each of my clients is that they can leave therapy feeling energized, lighter, and that their life and relationships are working better.
