Master of Arts (MA) - Clinical Mental Health Counseling Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, LPC-A PhDDr. Gregory Kaplan is a Professional Counselor Associate located in Portland, OR. Dr. Kaplan supports clients who would like to heal from past or present abuse, including toxic relationships or deep losses. He helps clients cope with the negative impacts of personality disorders. He also works with clients who are highly sensitive people or who are beginning to question lifelong identities. Many of his clients suffer from PTSD, anxiety, or difficulties with anger management.
Dr. Kaplan draws from multiple evidence-based therapy modalities in his work with clients. Clients learn how to better understand their attachment patterns and habits, especially those that no longer serve them. Dr. Kaplan also teaches clients how to cope with overwhelming emotion, which can integrate somatic or holistic approaches. His therapy stems from a social justice lens and is trauma-informed, meaning that sessions go at a pace that feels safe for the client. Dr. Kaplan strives to create a strong rapport with each one of his clients so that they feel comfortable speaking about vulnerable thoughts, ideas, and feelings.
Dr. Kaplan earned a Master’s degree from Northwestern University. He also has a PhD in Religion from Stanford University. He has extensive experience supporting individuals across many settings, including at universities, in business, and through spiritual practices. His goal is to help clients reduce their feelings of hurt and shame, and feel empowered to experience healing.

Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse
Conflict resolution - Learning how to effectively and compassionately communicate in the face of conflict, whether at work or in personal life
Emotion regulation - Learning how to effectively manage the ups and downs of intense emotions; developing coping skills to use in a variety of settings to calm oneself and to give an appropriate amount of space to emotions
