Professional statement

H. Ameeta Singh is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, based in the Bay Area. She holds a Master of Arts (Counseling Psychology) from the California Institute of Integral Studies.

Ameeta is originally from Fiji; of South Asian descent. As an immigrant woman of color, her personal, professional and academic experiences have provided her with knowledge and awareness around issues of race, class, ethnicity, privilege and oppression. She views psychotherapy as a process for healing and change; a means through which individuals can connect with their inherent strength, resiliency and power to create transformation in their lives and their relationships.

Ameeta's work with clients centers around the wounded self. She supports individuals to cultivate deeper insight and understanding about the ways in which their life experiences, internal narratives, core belief systems and ways of being in the world, impact their behaviors, choices and decision-making. By cultivating deeper awareness and insight, clients have felt empowered to change internal narratives and behaviors that may negatively impact their quality of life; as well as develop healthy coping strategies to effectively manage circumstances they may not yet, be to change.

Ameeta draws upon an individual's strengths, culture, spirituality and community as a means of facilitating healing, transformation and change. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in racial and social justice principles; is trauma informed and trauma focused. She incorporates mindfulness based, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and somatic based techniques to support clients to manage the challenges they are experiencing.

She has extensive experience working with people from diverse backgrounds including communities of color, immigrant communities, formerly or currently incarcerated individuals and the LGBTQ+ community. She is passionately committed to inclusivity, intentionality and integrity in all areas of her life.

Message to clients

If you have come to help me, you are wasting our time.... But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together. (Aboriginal Political Activists Group, 1970's)

Greetings! and Welcome...

I wanted to share the above quote with you because it has been a guiding force in my life. It underlies my commitment to racial and social justice; informs and inspires my creative and eclectic approach to therapy and consulting services. My own experiences of navigating multiple systems of oppression - both in the United States and overseas - have given me insight into my own resilience, strength and determination. These experiences inform both the therapeutic work and the consulting services I provide.

Reaching out for support takes courage; it requires taking an emotional risk in service of your own healing journey...I am grateful that your journey has brought you here. I trust that together we will co-create transformation and healing.

I welcome the opportunity to speak with you about any questions you may have about therapy in general, what is bringing you into therapy at this time, or my skills and experience. I am available for a free telephone or video consultation to discuss any questions you may have.

I offer teletherapy services only utilizing a HIPAA compliant and confidential audio-visual platform. Please feel free to call me and I will be happy to discuss how this works or any other questions you may have.
