Professional statement

Hayley Miller is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor located in Studio City, CA. Hayley enjoys working with teenagers, young adults, and adults. Her expertise lies in supporting clients through eating disorders, difficult relationships with food and eating, and body dysmorphia. She also helps those with trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, DID and dissociative disorders. Many of the people she works with suffer from intrusive images and distressing thoughts, which may be the result of childhood trauma.

Hayley takes a person-centered approach and addresses her client’s whole psychological and emotional needs, not just the current presenting problems. She helps clients to adjust the relationship they have with their body and to grow their self-awareness as well as self-compassion. Because many of her clients struggle with their thoughts, she utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which provide clients with skills in avoiding cognitive distortions and better understanding their reactions. She leverages Health at Every Size and intuitive eating ideas in her work, and helps clients find peace with the many parts of themselves for holistic healing.

Hayley earned a Master’s degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology with a specialty in Child and Adolescent mental health from Chestnut Hill College. She has over 10 years of experience since her education and tailors her therapy sessions for the needs of each individual.

Message to clients

I believe therapy to be an important and sacred space in which people can unburden themselves and work through anything they may struggle to process. It's a place in which they can be completely honest and open up about any issues that are difficult to talk about with others, like sharing their unique perspective or receiving validation for their feelings. There are many things that come up in therapy, and I take a completely non-judgmental approach toward discussing these emotions, allowing clients to find their own ways forward from their starting points.

For me, the goal of therapy is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to allow my clients to process what they have been through, who they would like to become, what changes they would like to make (or not make), and find a path forward from where they started in session. Together, we make space for all feelings, even if they're ones clients have strong feelings against. Quite often, we discuss relationships with the self and others and relationships they don't yet have but would like to have.

I help clients work toward their therapeutic goals while also allowing them to add new ones as they come up. I never create the goals on my own, but we work on the clients' goals together. I just provide a little push forward when it's tolerable to advance the work.

My practice is primarily working with people with eating disorders, body image, dissociative disorders, trauma, PTSD, and attachment issues.
