Henny Stern is a Somatic Trauma Therapist who offers in-person sessions in Cambridge, MA as well as virtual therapy in MA and NY. She specializes in treating trauma; complex PTSD, attachment wounds as well as dissociative disorders.
Henny works best with clients who have already experienced traditional talk therapy and while having gained much insight and awareness, are still struggling to see the changes they had hoped for. Henny is a somatic therapist, which means she supports her clients to become more attuned with their body, feel connected in the present moment, and have capacity to process and "be-with" difficult emotions and memories. Her approach is holistic and integrative and is guided by a trauma-informed lens. Her treatment also includes helping clients to identify safety, set boundaries, and move through challenging circumstances- so they can finally be on the other side of "stuckness." Henny uses the client-therapist relationship; working with client's on an individual basis- assessing needs accordingly to inform her on the best treatment plan.
Henny views trauma as less of an illness and more of a psycho-spiritual journey with opportunities for great transformation. She ultimately wants to empower her clients to listen to the messages of their body, and trust the little voice inside that speaks volumes about the past, present and path forward.
Years of Experience: 15 years
Complex trauma - Overwhelming responses in the present as a result of past experiences such as physical, emotional or sexual abuse, neglect, growing up in a chaotic or stressful family
Somatic therapy - All feelings have a body component and sometimes the body holds important information in physical symptoms; works with a body process orientation that can provide a way to work with somatic symptoms including tension, pain and fatigue and the emotions that come with those feelings
Dissociative disorders - Support processing and coping with painful or overwhelming emotions and reducing experiences of detachment from one’s reality, emotions, memory, and body
Mind-body connection - Practicing mindfulness to draw together how the body feels physically and how the mind feels mentally; healing both physically and mentally
