Professional statement

Henny Stern is a Somatic Trauma Therapist who offers in-person sessions in Cambridge, MA as well as virtual therapy in MA and NY. She specializes in treating trauma; complex PTSD, attachment wounds as well as dissociative disorders.

Henny works best with clients who have already experienced traditional talk therapy and while having gained much insight and awareness, are still struggling to see the changes they had hoped for. Henny is a somatic therapist, which means she supports her clients to become more attuned with their body, feel connected in the present moment, and have capacity to process and "be-with" difficult emotions and memories. Her approach is holistic and integrative and is guided by a trauma-informed lens. Her treatment also includes helping clients to identify safety, set boundaries, and move through challenging circumstances- so they can finally be on the other side of "stuckness." Henny uses the client-therapist relationship; working with client's on an individual basis- assessing needs accordingly to inform her on the best treatment plan.

Henny views trauma as less of an illness and more of a psycho-spiritual journey with opportunities for great transformation. She ultimately wants to empower her clients to listen to the messages of their body, and trust the little voice inside that speaks volumes about the past, present and path forward.

Message to clients

Many people assume that in order to have trauma they must remember experiencing a big and terrible event. When in actuality, trauma is less about the event that happened and more about an experience that left us feeling "not ok" inside. Trauma makes us feel alone- cut off from ourselves, others and the world around us. Healing from trauma is a journey of reconnection; feeling safe and supported enough to go to the painful feelings and memories and come out on the other side. Healing from trauma is not about overwhelming our nervous systems but about creating capacity to do hard things that feel important and necessary so that we can feel ok again to get back out in the world, be our authentic selves and experience the small and big joys of life. Being apart of people's journey from trauma and "stuckness" to wholeness and integration is extraordinary and an absolute honor. If my work resonates with you, I would love to hear from you and see if we may be the right fit to work together.
