Professional statement

Idonia Gaede is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker specializing in trauma, grief, career counseling, life transitions, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. She works with teenagers, young adults, college students, and adults, and her practice is affirming of individuals who identify as LGBTQ. Prior to starting her private practice, she worked as a college counselor at Curry College and as a therapist at Riverside Trauma Center.

Idonia has extensive background working with trauma survivors, including survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as individuals who have experienced bullying, natural disasters, and parental divorce. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she helps clients understand how their traumatic experiences may be affecting current interpersonal relationships and build resilience to move beyond their trauma symptoms.

Idonia also enjoys supporting clients through life transitions, whether a break up, job change, loss of a loved one, or birth of a new child. She aims to help clients tap into their inner resources to find their higher purpose and meaningful connections in their lives. As a former executive recruiter, she has coached and mentored clients towards successful and fulfilling careers, and enjoys helping clients identify their gifts and shape their careers using those skills.

Finally, Idonia is passionate about advocating for the LGBTQ community as an ally, and provides a warm environment for individuals who are questioning, self identifying, and coming out. She works holistically with clients to find the right resources for them, including physicians and support groups.

Idonia's treatment approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, mindfulness practices, and Solution Focused Therapy. She creates a non-judgmental, collaborative space for clients to take the first step towards change in their lives.

Message to clients

We are created to have meaningful connections, find a higher purpose and be able to handle the waves that life brings - such as life transitions, traumatic experiences and loss of loved ones - just as a surfer rides the waves of the ocean. I believe people have the ability to live their best lives, and my role as a therapist is to help tap into those inner resources. I guide clients to overcome a range of issues and to move into a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
I have helped adults with traumatic life events, grief and loss, sexual and gender identity questions, anxiety, depression and relationship concerns. I have helped people explore their career path, seek greater fulfillment in their current role or helping them move on to their next great career.
My approach is collaborative, warm and non-judgmental. I use a blend of treatment techniques-integrating mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy as well as career coaching.
