Professional statement

Iman Khan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Midtown Manhattan. She specializes in anxiety, depression, ADHD, and bipolar disorder and works with children, adults, couples, and families. While many of her clients are creative artists or performers struggling with performance anxiety and creative blocks, Iman really enjoys working with individuals across the lifespan. She is especially passionate about working with adults in transition, including those navigating a relationship ending or a new career. In addition to seeing individuals, she runs several groups and workshops on topics including neuroscience, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence. Iman is a Certified Mediator (Conflict Resolution) and has mediated in the areas of work conflict, divorce/family, and special education.

In session, Iman is kind and approachable. Her style is holistic, incorporating elements of both mindfulness and brainspotting. Her focus areas include mindfulness practices and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Brainspotting, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Her eclectic approach removes performance blocks, eliminates negative thought patterns, and reduces symptoms of trauma. She helps clients become more aware of their energy and how to redirect it into something more positive. One of Iman’s trademark practices is a technique she developed called Kaleidoscope Thinking. Using the kaleidoscope as a visual metaphor, Iman teaches clients the shifts in experience one can instantly have when they look at things differently. With the slightest turn of the kaleidoscope, the view changes and suddenly one sees a whole new picture.

Iman is passionate about reducing the stigmatization around mental health and wants to help her clients better understand their symptoms and how to properly manage them. She believes everyone deserves to live a life full of joy. Iman is able to see clients at multiple locations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn and can be contacted to determine which one is best.

Message to clients

The human experience is a complex. Each one of us has a unique set of traits, skills and experiences that influence the way we think, feel and behave. If you find yourself repeating patterns, feeling stuck, conflicted or blocked from your achieving goals, experiencing fulfilling relationships or living a life of passion and purpose, now is the time to invest in you. In 2018 Forbes named investing in yourself as one of the top four investments to make. Change is inevitable in this world, so make a choice to make changes that align with your values and fulfill your dreams.

Mindfulness - Practices to encourage a state of active, open attention on the present

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Bipolar disorder - Developing coping and preventive strategies to stabilize extreme mood swings, including manic and depressive episodes; increasing effective strategies to regulate emotions and maintain a healthy daily routine

Brainspotting - Analyzing relevant eye positions to identify, process and release a wide range of emotionally and bodily-based sources of pain, trauma, and dissociation; especially useful for anxiety, depression, and performance blocks

Divorce and separation - Questioning or feeling unsatisfied in your relationship; contemplation and navigation of separation; addressing issues of power, voice, and communication challenges

ADHD - Skill-building and support around organizational challenges, distracted attention, procrastination; building and maintaining healthy routines and structure

Stress management - Strengthening effective ways of coping with the stress of life and change; managing expectations of self and others

Performance Blocks - Helping to maximize the creative process, identify and remove performance blocks and cultivate a deeper self-awareness for optimized performance.
