Ireen Ninonuevo is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who offers sessions both remotely and in-person at her office in Union Square, Manhattan. She has over 15 years working with individuals with a history of trauma, including sexual harassment and assault, child abuse, intimate partner violence, interpersonal trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She also has extensive experience in relationships, building self-esteem. and religion and spirituality.
Ireen utilizes a number of different treatment approaches, depending on the client’s needs and goals. This includes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness practices, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She also utilizes a number of expressive therapies, including Trauma Art Narrative Therapy, which can help clients narrate their trauma using non-interpretive drawing steps. She has found that many trauma survivors have trouble sharing their story using words but are able to start through line drawings.
She spends a lot of time helping her clients develop coping strategies and sharing resources that can help manage their symptoms. In early sessions with Ireen, clients share what is triggering them each week and how they can improve how they respond.
Ireen calls herself the hopeful therapist and believes everyone has the power to heal. She is there to support clients on their journey. She worked at the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center in the Changing Futures Program for nearly a decade and received her MSW from New York University. Prior to working in mental health, she was in the fine arts industry. She looks forward to meeting you either in-person or remotely.
