Hi I am Isaac Cruz LMHC, a psychotherapist providing services to clients within the New York City area. Manhattan preferred psychotherapy specializes in providing Psycho dynamic and mindfulness therapeutic services to help people struggling with trauma, unresolved issues from their early childhood and their past, and as well difficulties with low self esteem, anxiety and negative self perception and personality disorders.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy and mindfulness is utilized to help engage a client in a therapeutic relationship and focus and develop and understanding of their personal experience and uncover potential patterns of dysfunction, working towards disregarding the negative coping styles that may exist and develop new and useful strategies that will help a client feel a sense of control over their experience.
As your therapist you don't have to struggle alone and clients are encouraged to commit to therapy, as it is well understood that it may be difficult at times to discuss your experiences more specifically, as you begin to work towards exploring the your most complex experiences and events.
A typical client who seeks consultation will understand or feel that they may be struggling with something that they may not completely understand and is willing to take the time to explore the many variables that make their experience unique. Mindfulness training that has its roots in the contemplative strategies associated with meditation and Zen can help us become aware of how perceive ourselves, how we express and negotiate our needs and interact with others. Clients will work towards asking important but difficult and challenging questions and collaborate with the therapist during the course of the psycho therapeutic experience.
Relationship issues - Expressing and negotiating our needs within our interpersonal relationships; Developing stronger emotional bonds with our partner and exploring patterns of dysfunctional behaviors, addressing concerns associated with boundaries and potential manipulation, Developing insight into the impact of our early emotional relationships and their significance on our present experience.
LGBTQIA, gender, & sexuality topics - Exploring your interpersonal experience and unique identity in a thoughtful and affirming environment. Developing a sense of self acceptance, coping with discrimination and oppression, navigating through your relationships with family and other important people, and as well cultural challenges that may exist. We can also emphasize and explore variations in sexual and gender identity expression.
Life transitions - Exploring life changes such as, changes in health status, educational and employment difficulties. Difficulties with interpersonal connections with others and moving to a new place of living, transitions within relationships and struggling with compatibility, difficulties adapting to responsibilities associated with child rearing, educational and professional career changes. The necessity to implement self-care strategies to help manage stressors.
Trauma- PTSD and Personality Disorders - Exploring Traumatic events and emotional difficulties that have an impact on our well being. we will work towards developing a sense of mastery over the physical and emotional response and manifestation of these events. Develop the strength of mind to move beyond your trauma with a positive sense of control of your future. "Personality Disorders" and other types of difficulties with relating to others are well understood to be correlated with early trauma and neglect.
Anxiety-Emotional Dysregulation-Anger Issues - Exploring triggers that exacerbate your physical tension and the irrational thoughts and fears associated with anxiety and anger. We can explore the situational experiences and emotional frustrations that impact on your daily routine and obstacles to your progress with personal goals. We will work to develop and utilize well structured strategies and new positive coping mechanisms to reduce emotional triggers and physical symptoms with an emphasis on collaborative work with your therapist.
Depression and Mood Changes - Identify fluctuations and changes in your mood and ability to develop motivation. Develop a plan of action that will work towards reducing symptoms such as fatigue, emotional indifference, self isolation, hopelessness, and negative self perception. Your treatment will work towards constructing new patterns of thinking, engaging and developing a support system of friends, family and other loved ones and as well working to identify new goals that will be important to you and your future.
