Professional statement

Isaac Staton (He/Him) specializes in individual therapy for most age groups, and has worked with many different types of clients. This includes those suffering from trauma, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals with severe mental illness. Some issues clients have brought to him in the past are PTSD and other trauma-related disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, various eating disorders, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, anger issues, and various psychotic disorders.

Isaac is a firm believer in evidence-based therapy, so his therapeutic approach changes from client to client. However, his default approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT. He is a trauma-informed counselor. In the past, he has also used person-centered therapy, solution-based therapy, and psychological first aid.

In 2018, Isaac received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with minors in English and Criminal Justice. In 2021, he received his Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. Before coming to Mind of Peace Counseling, Isaac worked as an assessor for the only Maximum-Security Mental Health Hospital in Texas. He then worked as a counselor for a non-profit focusing on providing services to victims of crimes.

Message to clients

My name is Isaac Staton (He/Him) and I am excited to be working with you. I wanted to let you know before starting of what to expect from me as a therapist. Our first session will be less therapy and more information gathering/getting-to-know. Between our first &second session, I look to find the best evidence-based practice to match your issue. You will then be able to consent to the treatment, or ask for something else that I will find. There are always multiple ways to approach an issue in therapy.

A little about me personally. I am a very big proponent of maintaining a work/life balance where possible for my clients, as well as myself. When not working with clients, I am a HUGE nerd. I play video games (My favorite genre is a tie between RPGs & Grand Strategy), Dungeons and Dragons, and read. The rest of my time is spent wrangling the giant snowball I call a dog named Alpine.

During our sessions, I work to create a space that is safe and secure for my clients. I emphasize during counseling that I do not judge my clients, no matter what they say during therapy. My goal for my clients is to ease the problem they presented in a timely fashion, the ideal goal is for therapy to last 8-12 weeks, so you can move on with your life. I also hope that therapy teaches my clients skills needed for other problems that may come up in the future.
