Professional statement

Jackson Katz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Brooklyn, NY. Jackson is passionate about creating therapeutic spaces for LGBTQI and Allied individuals. In this safe, comfortable therapy space, Jackson supports his clients to learn more about their emotional responses, grow their coping skills, and discover a sense of purpose. He also opens space for those who would like to talk about body positivity, sexual relationships, or anxiety.

Jackson’s approach to therapy centers around Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based therapy. Jackson teaches clients how to identify harmful thought patterns and break free from their impact. He also helps clients draw the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions and how they influence each other. Jackson also brings mindfulness practices into session to focus clients’ attention to the moment, releasing the stress of the past and future.

Jackson earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service. His warm and compassionate approach enables LGBTQ folks to feel comfortable speaking about their stressors, conflicts, bad memories, and fears. He brings curiosity and creativity into sessions to create dynamic, healing therapy sessions for all.

Message to clients

My practice is a safe spot to talk about the past, fears, and major life transitions such as career, relationships, parenthood, gender identity or sexuality. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help examine and evolve thoughts and feelings. I also use mindfulness tools to keep us rooted to the here and now. My style is warm, gentle and collaborative. I hold an anti-racist framework at my practice, welcome queer allyship discussions and I especially invite discourse for white folks grappling with white supremacy.

I've had great therapists. I've been through these processes and I believe in the effectiveness of change through many forms of therapy. What if we regularly made space for how hard life can be? And what if there was another person there to witness your process, who is absolutely dedicated to that time and to helping you heal? That is how I see our therapy sessions together. I will bring my creativity, my curiosity and my full presence, and hopefully we can chat about what you want and need today.
