Welcome! My name is James Broadnax, and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Criminology, Law & Justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). My research focuses on trauma, mental health, and the overrepresentation of Black youth in the juvenile justice system. This academic journey informs my practice, where I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate their challenges and achieve meaningful, lasting growth.
In my clinical practice, I employ a trauma-informed, evidence-based, and psychodynamic approach to foster hope and healing. I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients from various socioeconomic and racial backgrounds, including children, adolescents, and adults. My goal is to provide a supportive and objective environment where you can explore your experiences and create the changes you desire in your life.
I am particularly passionate about supporting the Black community by offering resources and challenging the stigma surrounding therapy and mental health. My practice is inclusive and welcoming to all, and I currently see adolescents and adults. My areas of interest and expertise include:
Trauma: Helping clients process and heal from traumatic experiences.
Anxiety & Depression: Addressing the roots of these issues and developing coping strategies.
Substance Abuse & Comorbidity: Supporting those dealing with addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Grief & Loss: Providing a space to navigate the complexities of grief.
Anger Management: Assisting clients in understanding and managing their anger.
Support for the Formerly Incarcerated: Facilitating reintegration and addressing the unique challenges faced by those returning to society.
Relationship Issues: Working with individuals and couples to enhance their relational dynamics.
