Professional statement

Jane Gotshalk is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker located in MA. Jane has over 20 years of experience working with people to improve their mental health. Jane specializes in working with active military and veterans. Her clients tend to start therapy because of trauma that they’ve previously experienced, which can lead to PTSD, depression, anxiety, addiction, or relationship conflicts. Jane also enjoys working with young people, including college students, as they navigate through their desire to achieve and learning how to manage perfectionism. She also enjoys helping parents adjust to their new lifestyles. Her work focuses around increasing client confidence and self-esteem.

Jane utilizes an evidence-based therapy modality that focuses on trauma called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Through EMDR, clients learn how to cope with distress and to create feelings of safety in the present. This can help decrease their trauma symptoms so they can complete their daily routines without discomfort. Jane also practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and psychodynamic therapy to encourage clients to grow their awareness of unhealthy patterns and better understand their feelings. Clients learn how to identify and cope with the negative feelings that arise. Jane also helps them learn more about who they are, whether that’s their gender identity, sexuality, or other identity-based topics.

Jane earned a Master’s degree in Social Work. She is particularly passionate about helping women with their mental health, as she recognizes the unique pressures that come with being a woman, including the roles of wife and mother. She strives to make quality mental health treatment accessible so that more people can feel better in their personal and professional lives.
