Professional statement

Janine Braham is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Elkridge, MD. Janine specializes in supporting individuals who appear, on the outside, successful and happy - however, internally feel overwhelmed with their stress levels. Much of this stress comes from self-prescribed high standards and a drive towards perfectionism, which can lead to burnout, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and low self-esteem. Janine is particularly passionate about helping POC clients reach a better state of mental health.

Janine’s goal as a therapist is to empower her clients to change the habits that hold them back from feeling fulfilled, present, and balanced. These habits likely got them to a high level professionally, however they are no longer helpful in maintaining wellbeing. Janine encourages clients to examine their motivations, especially their motivation to make healthy changes. She coaches them through making change, including helping them set goals and write out the steps they need to take towards those goals. She also practices Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and solutions-focused brief therapy. Clients leave therapy with additional coping skills to practice throughout their week, especially when they notice that they’re being hard on themselves or feeling overcome by negative emotions.

Janine earned a Master’s degree from Norfolk State University. She has over ten years of experience working with clients. She believes that every client arrives at therapy with their set of unique strengths, which she then helps them utilize along their own mental health journey.

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life

Self-esteem - Cultivating self-compassion, assertiveness, and confidence; developing ways to reduce suffering, anxiety, social withdrawal, and self-neglect

Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse

Clinical supervision - Offering professional supervision services for clinicians

Imposter syndrome - Learning how to identify instances of imposter syndrome and combatting any beliefs that one is not enough or does not deserve good things; practicing assertiveness and developing confidence
